The Role of Marketing in Innovation - Driving Customer Relevant Innovation
(Product Management Experience Series)

One of the many challenges of a marketer is to make your brand relevant outside of the marketing arena. How? Through innovation. Christian will focus on key learnings from his
work on both the Global Brand Strategy and the various Innovation Initiatives. He’ll focus on ways to drive your brand through strategic operations. He will also discuss the changing nature of Innovation and what it means to brand and marketing strategies and tactics.

Presenter

J. Christian Gammill, Senior Marketing Manager, IBM
While at IBM, Christian helped develop a new and innovative approach to brand strategy and management for the IBM Corporate brand. This initiative included global market research, strategy development and operational execution. The work has been embraced across the organization (sales, technical, communications and supply chain) and has demonstrated the value and impact of marketing outside of the marketing function.

In addition to the IBM Global Brand Strategy, he is an active driver of IBM Innovation. His involvement ranges from The National Innovation Initiative Team Coordinator to Academy of Technology Study Co-Lead to his role as an Innovation Catalyst.

Prior to his career in marketing, he worked in the pharmaceutical industry as an analytical chemist where his responsibilities ranged from highly technical development programs to project and client relationship management. Christian helped the organization successfully grow the business by driving the development of a new department and offering. The experience of growing a small business ultimately led him from the laboratory to business school.

Christian holds an MBA from The University of Michigan Ross Business School and a BS in Chemistry from Michigan State University.
